Regulatory Requirements:
Weight and Classification: The UAS weighs at least 55 lbs (including the substance being displaced) and falls under 14 CFR Part 137, which governs the use of aircraft, including drones, for dispensing or spraying substances.
Part 107 Pilot License: You must obtain or already hold a Part 107 Pilot License to operate the UAS. This license is issued by the FAA and ensures you have the necessary knowledge and skills for safe operation.
Part 137 UAS Certificate: In addition to the Part 107 license, you need to apply for and obtain a Part 137 UAS Certificate. This certificate allows you to use the UAS for dispensing or spraying substances in compliance with regulations.
Important Updates:
Expiration of Section 44807: The FAA Exemption granted by Section 44807 expired on September 30, 2023. Compliance with all regulations is now mandatory, and previous exemptions are no longer valid.
Remote ID Compliance: Drone pilots have been expected to comply with Remote ID requirements since September 16, 2023. The FAA will determine enforcement through March 16, 2024, considering relevant factors.
Additional Information:
For detailed information on registering a UAS under 14 CFR Part 137, obtaining a Part 107 Pilot License, and becoming a drone pilot, please refer to the official FAA website. It provides comprehensive and up-to-date information on UAS operations, regulations, and procedures.
Note: Regularly monitor the official FAA website for any updates or changes in regulations to ensure ongoing compliance with requirements.
Use Cases
The drone has various use cases, including, but not limited to, those below.
Painting large outdoor structures: This drone handles painting tasks for large outdoor structures like bridges, or tunnels that otherwise pose risks for the safety of human labor. The drone can reach awkward spaces with ease, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Painting hard-to-reach or dangerous areas: The ability to access tight and high-risk spaces allows the drone to apply paint safely, reducing human risks associated with painting commercial or industrial structures.
Repainting shipping containers: As maritime conditions expedite wear and tear on shipping containers, the drone can ensure their longevity by offering a fresh coat of paint for protection against rust and corrosion.
Maintaining historical and tall buildings: The drone can delicately handle maintenance tasks for historical buildings, minimizing both risks to the structure's integrity and potential injury to workers.
Removing unwanted paint from public infrastructure: The drone can efficiently paint over graffiti from public spaces, eliminating the need for physical labor.
